Imo State Governor, Senator Hope Uzodimma, has approved N100 million to support the ongoing building project at the Arsenal Golf and Country Club in Obinze, Owerri West Local Government Area of the state.
The intervention was announced during the club’s 2026 Governor’s Cup Tournament, where Uzodimma joined other golfers at the three-day event held from September 10 to 12.
Chairman of the tournament’s organising committee, Sir Ernest Nwapa, said the governor approved the funding after inspecting the project and expressing concern over the pace of its completion.
He said the intervention would help the club advance the building project and improve its facilities for sporting and related activities.
The tournament, held under the theme, ‘Swing and Discover the New Imo,’ brought together golfers, club members, professionals, dignitaries and sports enthusiasts for competition, networking and social interaction.
Activities began on September 10 with a competition involving caddies and course workers, followed by a professional invitational tournament and other categories.
Uzodimma, who participated in the tournament, said his involvement allowed him to test his golfing skills while interacting with fellow golfers and enjoying the camaraderie associated with the sport.
The governor noted that golf goes beyond competition and recreation, saying it also provides opportunities for people from different backgrounds to build relationships and strengthen social interaction.
He expressed appreciation for the tournament and said he looked forward to more opportunities to participate in, learn from and contribute to the development of golf.
The N100 million commitment is expected to accelerate the completion of the Arsenal Golf and Country Club’s building project and strengthen its capacity to host sporting competitions and other activities.
Located in Obinze, the club serves as a venue for golf tournaments, professional networking and social gatherings, attracting golfers and stakeholders from within and outside Imo State.
The tournament also provided an avenue to showcase Imo’s sporting environment while promoting interaction among golfers, government officials, professionals and other participants.
The organisers are expected to use the governor’s intervention to advance the project and further position the club as a stronger destination for golf and related activities in the state.
