Bangladesh to Procure 14 LNG Cargoes to Stabilize Gas Supply

T h e government has decided to purchase 14 LNG cargoes from seven companies without inviting open tenders to maintain normal gas supply and meet urgent energy needs.

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs gave inprinciple approval to the proposal recently, with two cargoes to be purchased from each company under applicable public procurement rules.

Separately, the Cabinet Committee on Government Purchase recommended approval to procure one LNG cargo from Aramco Trading Singapore Pte Ltd at $23.93 per MMBtu through an international quotation process.

The cargo is scheduled for delivery on September 1-2.

The government also recommended extending technical assistance from Japan’s Mitsubishi Heavy Industries for another year to help ensure uninterrupted production at the GhorashalPalash Fertilizer Factory
