11 quick facts to know about new WAEC Nigeria HNO, Suleiman Danlami Kum

Suleiman Danlami Kum was recently appointed the new Head of the Nigeria National Office (HNO) of WAEC Nigeria, succeeding Dr. Amos Josiah Dangut, who is now WAEC Registrar and Chief Executive and has since assumed that role on October 2, 2026.

Mr Kum, a veteran of the examination body, joined WAEC in 1998 as Assistant Registrar II and rose through the ranks to Senior Deputy Registrar by 2024, having previously served as Deputy Registrar in the HNO’s Office before his latest appointment.

Here are 11 quick facts to know about him:

He is now the new Head of the Nigeria National Office (HNO) of WAEC Nigeria.

He succeeds Dr. Amos Josiah Dangut, who is now WAEC Registrar and Chief Executive, and has since assumed the role on October 2, 2026.

Mr Kum joined WAEC in 1998 as Assistant Registrar II and rose to Senior Deputy Registrar by 2024.

Before his appointment, he worked as the Deputy Registrar in the HNO’s Office.

Mr Kum was born on October 16, 1970, in Minna, Niger State, but hails from Langtang North, Plateau State.

He holds a Bachelor of Agriculture (1992) and a Postgraduate Diploma in Education (2025), and is currently pursuing his Master’s in Education.

Mr Kum had earlier worked as a classroom teacher and administrator at Baptist High School, Jos, before joining the service of WAEC.

He has managed key regional branches and zones of WAEC, heading Exam Security and operations in Awka, Yola, Makurdi, Gusau, Kano, Port Harcourt and Ikeja.

Mr Kum reportedly led WAEC’s shift to facial recognition biometrics, Variable Data Prints (VDP) security and Computer-Based Examinations (CBE).

He is a member of the Nigerian Institute of Management (NIM).

He is expected to enjoin the support and cooperation of workers and other stakeholders.
