The Chairman of Delta State Muslims Pilgrims Welfare Board and a chieftain of the Arewa community, Alhaji Auwalu Tukur, has stepped up grassroots mobilisation for All Progressives Congress candidates in council areas, urging women to work for a ‘5/5’ victory for the party in the 2027 general elections.
Speaking when he and his team met with members of the Great Igbo Women in Politics, Oshimili South Chapter, led by its Coordinator and Senior Special Assistant to the Governor, Helen Otakpo, in Asaba, Tukur said the ‘5/5’ agenda was aimed at securing political alignment across the various levels of government.
The meeting, which formed part of Tukur’s ongoing grassroots sensitisation tour, focused on political awareness, women’s participation and mobilisation ahead of the elections.
Tukur urged them to support all the APC candidates, identifying them as President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for President, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for Governor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa for Senate, Rt Hon Ndudi Elumelu for the House of Representatives and Hon Barr Bridget Anyafulu for the House of Assembly.
He charged the women to take the campaign beyond the meeting venue by engaging women’s unions, market associations, community groups and other grassroots organisations across the local government.
Responding, Otakpo thanked Tukur and his entourage for accepting the invitation, describing the engagement as timely and impactful.
She said members of Great Igbo Women in Politics were fully prepared to take the sensitisation campaign to the wards and communities, assuring that the group would mobilise women for the APC candidates.
Otakpo said the group would deepen its engagement with women across Oshimili South and use its grassroots structures to spread the political message ahead of the elections.
The meeting ended with a renewed commitment to intensify grassroots mobilisation, particularly among women, across the local government.
The participants also called for increased voter participation, urging eligible voters to exercise their franchise during the 2027 elections.
