The Association of Medical Laboratory Scientists of Nigeria (AMLSN) has honoured the President and Founder of MAAUN Group of Universities, Prof. Adamu Abubakar Gwarzo, with Honorary Membership in recognition of his contributions to higher education, healthcare training and the advancement of Medical Laboratory Science in Nigeria and across Africa.
The National President of AMLSN, Dr. Casmir Ifeanyi, disclosed this during the presentation of the honour to Prof. Gwarzo, noting that the recognition reflected his commitment to expanding access to quality health sciences education and developing future Medical Laboratory Scientists and other healthcare professionals.
The honour further underscores Prof. Gwarzo’s growing contributions to health sciences education and professional training within Nigeria and across Africa.
In a letter dated September 4, 2026, AMLSN said Prof. Gwarzo was nominated by its National Executive Council in recognition of his outstanding contributions to the development of the profession.
The association specifically acknowledged his support for the establishment and development of Medical Laboratory Science education at MAAUN in Niger Republic and MAAUN Kano.
It also commended his support for the Doctor of Medical Laboratory Science (MLSD) programme, describing it as a landmark initiative capable of strengthening professional capacity, research, innovation and leadership in the profession.
According to AMLSN, Prof. Gwarzo’s commitment to expanding access to quality health sciences education had created opportunities for the training and development of future Medical Laboratory Scientists and other healthcare professionals across Africa.
The association said the honour also represented appreciation for his efforts to strengthen the connection between higher education and healthcare workforce development.
Clarifying the timeline, AMLSN’s September 4 letter represents the formal notification of Prof. Gwarzo’s nomination and conferment of the Honorary Membership, while the ceremonial investiture will take place later at the association’s 61st Annual Scientific Conference and Annual General Meeting.
According to the association, the conference and AGM are scheduled for November 4-8, 2026, in Minna, Niger State.
Dr. Ifeanyi congratulated Prof. Gwarzo on the recognition and commended his continued support for the Medical Laboratory Science profession in Nigeria.
Meanwhile, Prof Gwarzo, has described the lawmaker representing Kiru/Bebeji Federal Constituency, Dr. Abdulmumin Jibrin Kofa, as a role model whose contributions to business, public service and human development have positively impacted society.
Gwarzo stated this while congratulating Jibrin Kofa on his 50th birthday, describing the milestone as an opportunity to celebrate his achievements and reflect on his contributions to the development of Kano State and Nigeria.
The MAAUN president commended Jibrin’s transition from the private sector into public service, saying his journey demonstrated determination, hard work, resilience and commitment to serving humanity.
‘Your journey into business and public service says a lot about your commitment, hard work and determination to succeed,’ Gwarzo said.
He described the lawmaker as a friend, accomplished public servant and role model worthy of emulation by the younger generation.
According to him, attaining the age of 50 was a significant milestone deserving of celebration, noting that Jibrin’s years of service provided an opportunity to assess the impact he had made in the lives of individuals and the wider society.
‘A person of your calibre deserves to be celebrated for attaining the golden age of 50. This milestone is not only a celebration of age but also an opportunity to reflect on the impact you have made in the lives of others and in the development of our society,’ he added.
