The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has announced a temporary disruption of its Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS), the platform used for processing admissions into tertiary institutions across the country.
Acting Director, Public Affairs of JAMB, Dr Fabian Benjamin, disclosed this in a statement on Thursday in Abuja, attributing the disruption to technical challenges associated with the platform’s hosting arrangements.
Benjamin said the Board had immediately commenced intensive engagement with the hosting organisation to identify and resolve the problem and restore the platform as quickly as possible.
He said the Board was particularly concerned about the timing of the disruption, given the critical role of CAPS in the ongoing admission exercise.
According to him, institutions are currently processing admissions, while candidates are awaiting admission decisions and other stakeholders are simultaneously accessing the platform.
He said JAMB decided to promptly inform the public of the development in line with its commitment to transparency and accountability.
‘Rather than leave candidates, institutions and other stakeholders to speculate about the cause of the disruption, the Board is providing this update while all necessary efforts are being made to restore the platform,’ he said.
Benjamin regretted the inconvenience the temporary disruption might cause candidates, institutions and other users of CAPS, assuring stakeholders that efforts were ongoing to restore the system to full functionality within the shortest possible time.
He said the Board would also review the circumstances surrounding the disruption after the platform had been restored, with a view to putting measures in place to prevent a recurrence.
‘Given the critical role of CAPS in ensuring a transparent, orderly and coordinated admissions process, the Board will also review the circumstances surrounding the disruption with a view to putting measures in place to prevent a recurrence of such interruptions,’ he stated.
The Board urged candidates, institutions and other stakeholders to remain patient and assured them that further updates would be provided as developments unfold.
