A housewife in Kaiama, Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State, Sadiat Yunusa, has been arrested for culpable homicide as she was accused of strangulating a three-year-old daughter of her co-wife.
The state Police Commissioner, Adekimi Ojo, while briefing journalists in Ilorin on Friday on operational successes recorded recently by the command, said that the act by the suspect was motivated by resentment and jealousy arising from a prolonged domestic dispute.
‘The suspect said that her husband had neglected her and her three children in favour of his second wife.’
The police boss, who said that the case was reported at Kaiama Divisional Police Headquarters on July 25, 2026, added that preliminary findings revealed that the three-year-old girl, Ummaiyat, had been left in the care of a family member while her mother went to the Kaiama Central Market.
‘During that period, the suspect, Sadiat Yunusa, allegedly lured the child away to a nearby farm settlement, where she unlawfully caused her death by strangulation.
‘Prompt investigative efforts led to the arrest of the suspect, who, during interrogation, voluntarily confessed to the commission of the offence.
‘She disclosed that the act was motivated by resentment and jealousy arising from a prolonged domestic dispute, alleging that her husband had neglected her and her three children in favour of his second wife.’
Ojo said that the suspect has been charged to court.
Also, the command said that three teenagers, namely, Ali Umaru, ‘Male’, 16 years, Alhaji Modu, ‘Male’, 17 years, and Abacha Babagana, ‘Male’, 14 years, were arrested on July 20, 2026, for unlawful possession of an unusually large quantity of electronic devices and accessories suspected to be stolen.
The exhibits include:

Ten (10) cartons of i17 Air Pro Flip mobile phones;
Four (4) Oraimo/New Age/Rexi power banks of various capacities;
Five (5) used iPhones;
One (1) Samsung Fold mobile phone;
One (1) Redmi Android phone;
One (1) Tecno Pop Android phone;
One (1) Itel Android phone;
One (1) Zealot portable speaker;
Two (2) wristwatches.
‘On July 20, 2026, at about 5:30 p.m., operatives of Operation Harmony, while conducting a proactive stop-and-search operation along the Oko-Olowo/Alapa axis, intercepted the above-named suspects conveying an unusually large quantity of electronic devices and accessories under circumstances that aroused reasonable suspicion.
‘A thorough search led to the recovery of the listed exhibits. During preliminary interrogation, the suspects failed to provide any satisfactory account of ownership or lawful possession of the items, as they could neither produce purchase receipts, waybills, nor any other documentation linking them to the recovered property.
‘Their explanations regarding the source and intended destination of the items were also inconsistent, thereby necessitating further investigation.
‘The suspects were consequently taken into custody, where a discreet investigation was immediately commenced to ascertain the ownership and origin of the recovered exhibits.
‘Findings from the preliminary investigation established sufficient grounds to charge the suspects before a competent court for being in possession of property reasonably suspected to have been stolen.
‘They have since been remanded at the appropriate Juvenile Correctional Centre pending further proceedings.’
