My Uncle who has Kidney problem has been placed on a twice weekly dialysis. Kindly let me know how long he has to be on dialysis to survive.

You could live few decades with dialysis if the patient sticks to proper diet plan and regular follow up with nephrologist. Kidney is like a plastic filter and if it is strained with overload, the filter will start breaking and get decayed.
Once the filter is decayed it cannot be regenerated in anyway. The only way is transplant otherwise dialysis. During dialysis, blood is filtered on an external filter.
