KANO State governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has supervised traffic compliance at Kofar Fanfo Junction, spending more than one hour monitoring motorists to ensure strict adherence to traffic light signals.
Expressing dissatisfaction with what he described as the recklessness of some road users and their failure to comply with the newly installed traffic lights, the governor said the multi-billion-naira traffic infrastructure should not be left underutilised.
He warned that traffic offenders will face appropriate sanctions, directing relevant authorities to closely monitor and punish violators.
The governor’s action formed part of efforts by his administration to restore order and discipline on roads in the state.
A statement on Tuesday by the governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, said Governor Yusuf was accompanied by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), commissioners, and other senior government officials during the exercise.
Addressing road users, the governor directed motorists, commercial drivers, tricycle operators, and pedestrians to strictly comply with traffic regulations, stressing that obedience to traffic lights is essential for protecting lives and property.
He announced plans to reposition the Kano Road Traffic Agency (KAROTA) into a more professional traffic management agency dedicated to ensuring the safety of road users.
According to the statement, the agency will be strengthened to improve traffic control, enforce road regulations, and promote a culture of compliance throughout the state.
Yusuf reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to building a safer, more orderly, and efficient transportation system for residents.
‘Traffic offenders should be closely monitored and punished by the relevant authorities to ensure that the equipment is not relegated to merely city decorations,’ the governor said.
The renewed enforcement drive is part of the government’s broader efforts to improve road safety, strengthen traffic management, and ensure the effective use of public infrastructure.
