The Senior Special Assistant to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Students Engagement and National Director of the Students Wing of the City Boy Movement, Comrade Sunday Asefon, has said the President is committed to transforming Nigeria’s education sector and expanding access to quality education for students across the country.
Asefon stated this during the weekend at the inauguration of Campus Ambassadors of the City Boy Movement across tertiary institutions in Kaduna State.
The event, held at Kaduna Polytechnic and the Federal University of Education, Zaria, brought together student leaders and representatives from several tertiary institutions in the state.
Institutions represented at the event included Kaduna Polytechnic, Cooperative College, College of Water Resources, Kaduna University, Nuruddeen Polytechnic, Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), College of Agriculture, College of Legal Studies and the Federal University of Education, Zaria.
The newly inaugurated Campus Ambassadors, who are students and registered Permanent Voter Card (PVC) holders, were tasked with mobilising and engaging fellow students while promoting the vision and objectives of the City Boy Movement on their respective campuses.
Speaking at the event, Asefon conveyed the message and vision of the National Patron of the movement, Barrister Seyi Tinubu, and its Director-General, Hon. Francis Tosin Soga, to the students.
He said the leadership of the movement remained committed to advancing the interests of Nigerian students and youths through meaningful engagement, opportunities and empowerment.
Asefon highlighted the commitment of the Tinubu administration to transforming the education sector, improving students’ welfare and expanding access to quality education across the country.
According to him, the administration recognises the importance of providing young Nigerians with opportunities that will enable them to acquire the knowledge, skills and support needed to contribute meaningfully to national development.
A major highlight of the event was the presentation of a letter of appointment to one of the student leaders in the zone as an Assistant Lecturer at the Federal College of Education, Katsina, Katsina State.
The appointment, according to Asefon, was facilitated through the intervention of the City Boy Movement’s National Director of Student Engagement.
He urged the newly inaugurated Campus Ambassadors to demonstrate responsible and proactive leadership, build strong networks within their institutions and engage more students through constructive dialogue.
He further charged them to uphold the ideals, values and principles of the City Boy Movement, while promoting unity, patriotism, responsible leadership and constructive engagement among students.
The event was attended by the Kaduna State Director of the City Boy Movement; Dean of Students Affairs, Kaduna Polytechnic; State Coordinator of the City Boy Movement in Borno State; Deputy National Director of the Students Wing; Special Adviser on Students to the Director-General of the movement; NANS North-West Coordinator; National President of Female Students; leaders of indigent students; and Students’ Union Government (SUG) presidents from various institutions.
Asefon said the inauguration marked another important step towards strengthening student participation, leadership and engagement within the City Boy Movement across the North-West.
