British Airways (BA) has explained why over 100 of their flights were diverted, describing it as an incredibly frustrating experience .
The airline announced in their verified X account on Tuesday, stating that the airline is doing all they can to minimise their customers’ inconveniences.
They attributed the issue to National Air Traffic Services (NATS) the organisation responsible for providing Air Traffic Management (ATM) services in the United Kingdom
‘While NATS informed us that their Air Traffic Control (ATC) system fault has been resolved, the severity of the issue means there will be a significant knock-on impact on our customers and colleagues’
‘We were forced to divert more than 100 flights on Tuesday afternoon, inconveniencing tens of thousands of customers. This incident was out of our control and is an incredibly frustrating experience for our customers and colleagues, with a number of our aircraft and crews out of place’.
The airline assured they are doing everything to keep their customers updated and to make arrangements for those who wish to continue their journeys.
The airline further advised those who wish not to travel on Tuesday or Wednesday to move their flights for free up until Friday, 11th September, 2026.
