After a shocking eviction from the Big Brother Naija Season 10 house, ex-housemates Rooboy, Mide, Sabrina and Zita were asked to pick who they think will emerge winner and claim the N120 million grand prize on Sunday.

Responding in an interview with Tribune Online, Rooboy, known for his energetic and main character personality of the house, gave a split prediction, saying: ‘Koyin, but for in-time, Imisi.’ His response sounded like he was rooting for both housemates.

Mide was more direct, stating: ‘I think Imisi stands a chance of winning.’

Sabrina, who exited the house in week 3 due to health reasons, mentioned her bestie and considered Imisi as a strong contender for the big prize.

‘Kola my bestie for sure, and I’m also rooting for Imisi,’ Sabrina told Tribune Online.

Zita, who was a two-time Head of House in Biggie’s house, placed her bet on Imisi while also sending best wishes to others.

She said, ‘I think Imisi will win. She has her chill moments. Goodluck to Dede and Kola.’

When asked if they had thought about Imisi winning while still in the house, both Sabrina and Zita replied in affirmative. Zita further explained that Imisi brought the drama.

‘She was interesting, she brought the drama, and she’s a cool person, why not?,’ Zita added.

Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Benjamin Kalu has urged Abia State government and the South-East region to give credit to President Bola Tinubu for ensuring that funds were made available for execution of projects.

Speaking during the commissioning of projects in Aba, Abia State on Friday, Hon. Kalu who represents Bende Federal Constituency of the State commended Governor Alex Otti for his efforts in enhancing the State’s infrastructure, calling on the governor to give due recognition to President Tinubu for his contributions to the region.

He said: ‘As you know, I am not a member of your party. I am a member of APC. But when it comes to development, it is important that citizens remember that we were first citizens of this state before we became political party members.

‘And if you love your state, irrespective of the political party of your governor, you must find a way to work with that governor to succeed. It is not my first time of extending this magnanimity. It is in my character to associate with the governors of my state.

‘I did it with Governor T.O. Orji. I did it with Governor Okezie Ikpeazu and my brother and friend, Dr. Otti who was my friend before he became governor.

‘There is no reason he will invite me on a special day like this and I will not leave Abuja to be here. Governance is about partnership. The state must partner with the federal government and the federal government must partner with the state.

‘As the Deputy Speaker, I represent the people of the South East. Abia is part of South eayst. And if I have been with Mr. President, visiting Enugu who is not a member of APC and Anambra who is not a member of APC, there’s absolutely no reason I will not identify with my Governor in my own state.

‘I have gone with him from morning, visiting all the projects till this evening. I have seen the State’s projects carried out by the governor and for that, we commend him.

‘But as a member and citizen of this state, I request that the governor, like Oliver Twist, we need more and also as a federal lawmaker and a leader in this country, I want us to be very vocal in praising the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria on how he has made resources available to the states in the Federal Republic of Nigeria when he removed the oil subsidy.

‘He did not keep that money in Abuja. He sent it to the States. It is my challenge to the commissioner for information and all the media houses in Abia State, please give credit to whom credit is due.

‘The ones the President has done and the ones he has assisted, please make sure all Abians know that the President is supporting the governor of Abia state. It is important because it is the philosophy of the Igbos that if you thank a helper, he will do more. If we need more from the President, we must give the true credit to the President so that he will release more for governor Otti to do more for Abia state.’

Hon. Kalu also appealed to the President who was represented by the Minister of Works, Senator Dave Umahi to consider establishing a seaport in the South-East region, saying it would boost trade and economic activities in the area.

‘Mr. President, Sir, we want to thank you as Abians for what you are doing in our State through our governor and what you’re doing around the South East. Mr President, we need another port in the South East. Southeast are traders. We need a port so that our trading will be enhanced’, he said.

The Deputy Speaker also urged the President to intervene in the demolition of properties belonging to Igbo residents in Lagos State, urging the Lagos State Government to allow them to regularize their documents.

‘Mr President, I also want to say that the destruction and demolition of the houses and offices of our brothers in Lagos makes our heart bleed. Mr. President, for some of them who have not gotten the right documents, my plea to you is to appeal to the governor of Lagos state to keep accommodating our brothers and please allow them to rectify their documents instead of destruction.

‘Let them come into the room and find a way and regularize some of these documents. It bleeds our heart that within this hard time that houses are being destroyed but I know that Mr President who cares for the Igbos, who made the Igbos one of the first commissioners of finance in his administration will listen to the hearing of the Igbos’, Hon. Kalu pleaded.

As the 2027 general elections draw near, the Independent Judicial Accountability Panel (IJAP) has urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to adhere strictly to the provisions of the Constitution, the Electoral Act, and its regulations on the nomination of candidates in order to safeguard public trust.

IJAP, led by retired Court of Appeal Justice Mojeed Adekunle Owoade, also charged political parties to prioritize the public interest over selfish ambitions, abide by their constitutions, rules, and regulations in candidate nominations, and desist from exerting undue pressure on INEC and the courts.

Addressing a press conference at the end of IJAP’s third session, held under the auspices of the CiTi-Act Project of ActionAid Nigeria in Abuja on Friday, Justice Owoade emphasized the need for citizens to actively engage in the electoral process, including party primaries, and to reject candidates who do not emerge from lawful primaries.

The panel also discussed the recent emergency rule in Rivers State, noting that while democratic governance had been restored, the process revealed constitutional ambiguities.

It observed that the National Assembly confirmed the declaration of emergency through a voice vote rather than the constitutionally required roll-call vote, potentially undermining democratic safeguards.

It further expressed concern that a pending legal action seeking clarity on the President’s emergency powers under Section 305 of the Constitution remains unheard at the Supreme Court. ‘This delay undermines public confidence in the judiciary’s role as a guardian of constitutionalism,’ the panel warned, urging expedited hearings for cases of national importance.

Among the session’s highlights was a review of high-profile Supreme Court cases, including APC v. Bashir Sheriff and INEC and Oyetola v. INEC, which the panel said raised serious concerns about consistency with established legal principles.

In the Bashir Sheriff case, IJAP criticized the Supreme Court’s reliance on technicalities, arguing that it contradicted its own precedents and undermined substantial justice.

‘The judiciary must place greater emphasis on justice rather than technical interpretations that can subvert the will of the people,’ Justice Owoade said.

On Oyetola v. INEC, the panel commended the court for its clarity on the use of the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS), but stressed that backend data alone should not serve as conclusive evidence in election disputes.

In its analysis of Rhodes-Vivour v. INEC, IJAP welcomed the Supreme Court’s reaffirmation that a dual citizen by birth is not disqualified from contesting elections, describing it as a reasonable interpretation of constitutional provisions.

Calling for urgent reforms in Nigeria’s judicial and electoral systems, Justice Owoade noted:

‘Citizens must show greater interest in the entire electoral process, including party primaries, and reject candidates that emerge through flawed processes. The judiciary, INEC, political parties, and the legislature all have roles to play in building trust in our democracy.’

IJAP reiterated its commitment, in partnership with ActionAid Nigeria, to advancing systemic reforms that will strengthen Nigeria’s democratic and judicial institutions.

Nigerian singer, Deborah Oluwaseyi, professionally known as Seyi Shay, has opened up about the real cause of her long-standing feud with fellow music star Tiwa Savage, revealing that a betrayal by her former personal assistant was at the root of their fallout.

Speaking on the Offair Show, the Yolo Yolo crooner disclosed that her ex-personal assistant was secretly having an affair with Tiwa Savage’s estranged husband, Tunji Balogun, popularly known as TBillz.

According to Seyi Shay, the revelation came years later when she ran into her former assistant in London. The ex-staff member admitted to the affair and apologised for being the reason behind the tension between the two singers.

‘She told me she was having a relationship with my girl’s [Tiwa Savage’s] husband, and I didn’t even know. It must have been true; I don’t think she would say all of that as a joke,’ Seyi Shay said.

The singer added that she understood why Tiwa Savage might have assumed she was aware of the affair and believed she condoned it.

‘When she told me this, I was disgusted because we were rolling together and doing things together, meanwhile Tiwa probably thought I knew about it. You can just imagine the anger. It’s so painful. If that was me, I would have done worse,’ she added.

The Ondo State governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, will lead the stakeholders at the rescheduled South-West stakeholders and the Federal Government engagement summit in Akure, Ondo State.

The summit, tagged ‘Strengthening Democracy Through Dialogue: Assessing Progress, Charting the Future’, earlier scheduled for October 9 will now hold from October 29-30, 2025, in Akure, Ondo State.

The summit, which is jointly put together by the Development Agenda for Western Nigeria (DAWN) and the pan-Yoruba Socio-cultural group, is aimed at assessing the impact of the government at all levels in the region.

The Chairman of the Steering Committee, Dr Akin Onigninde (SAN), disclosed in a statement made available to the newsmen that the decision reflects the committee’s commitment to ensuring that the summit provides a truly meaningful platform for engagement between citizens and government.

‘The additional time will enable us to conduct comprehensive consultations with all participating ministries, agencies, and stakeholders; ensure optimal logistical arrangements that facilitate substantive dialogue; and coordinate effectively with all six Southwest state governments and participating institutions,’ he said.

Onigbinde apologised for any inconvenience this postponement may cause and assured all stakeholders and the general public of its commitment to delivering an impactful, inclusive, and productive summit that will serve as a landmark platform for citizen-government engagement in the Southwest region.

The two-day event will feature stakeholder dialogues across six major thematic sessions covering: Fiscal Reforms and National Planning, Economic Development and Job Creation, Social Services and Social Development, Infrastructure and Transportation, Human Capital Development and Security and Governance.

The summit will bring together Southwest Governors, Federal Ministers and appointees of Southwest extraction, Federal legislators, traditional rulers, religious leaders, civil society organisations, private sector representatives, youth students and women groups and other key stakeholders from across the six Southwest states.

Amid a wave of relentless bandit attacks, residents of Kebbe Local Government Area in Sokoto State have appealed to the Federal Government to grant them the right to bear arms for self-defence.

Their appeal follows fresh assaults by the deadly Lakurawa bandit group, which have left several people dead, many displaced, and entire communities living in fear.

Addressing journalists at the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Secretariat in Sokoto on Saturday, the leader of the group, Alhaji Adamu Haruna Kebbe, said residents have lost confidence in the government’s ability to protect them.

‘We can no longer sleep with our eyes closed. Our people are being killed almost daily, and the government has abandoned us to our fate,’ Haruna lamented.

He accused the state authorities of failing to assess the worsening security situation or provide adequate support to local security volunteers battling the bandits.

The community leaders also demanded direct federal allocations to local governments to enable them to fund and equip local security operatives. They argued that empowering communities would help them defend themselves and curb further bloodshed.

Sokoto has been one of the epicentres of banditry in northern Nigeria, with new militant groups such as the Lakurawas and the notorious gang led by Bello Turji terrorising villages across Isa, Sabon Birni and Kebbe local government areas.

Although the state government has acknowledged the growing threat, residents insist that government efforts have been too little, too late.

Security analysts say the residents’ desperate call for self-defence reflects the erosion of trust in the state’s capacity to safeguard lives and property.

‘If the government cannot protect us, it should allow us to protect ourselves,’ another community leader said.

As the attacks persist, the people of Kebbe warn that they will no longer sit idly by while bandits destroy their communities. Their message to the government is clear: act now or give us the right to defend ourselves.

The Bureau of Public Service Reforms (BPSR) has launched the 2025 edition of its Transparency and Integrity Index (TII), aimed at strengthening accountability and openness across Nigeria’s public sector.

The announcement was made in a statement issued on Saturday in Abuja by Mr. Aliyu Umar, Head of Strategic Communications at the BPSR.

Speaking during the launch, Mr. Dasuki Arabi, Director-General of the Bureau, described the Index as a critical instrument for measuring ethical conduct, transparency, and integrity within Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs).

‘This annual event remains one of the most important platforms for promoting transparency, accountability, and integrity within our public institutions,’ Arabi said.

He explained that the Transparency and Integrity Index ‘is not just about numbers or rankings; it is about building a culture of openness and responsibility that inspires public trust.’

Now in its fifth edition, the Index assesses how government institutions comply with established transparency standards across five key areas – financial management, control of corruption, open procurement, citizens’ engagement, and human resource inclusion.

According to Arabi, the 2025 assessment was conducted in collaboration with the Centre for Fiscal Transparency and Public Integrity (CeFTPI), marking another milestone in the Bureau’s drive to improve governance outcomes.

He noted that the initiative aligns with the National Strategy for Public Service Reforms (NSPSR 2021-2025), reinforces the Freedom of Information Act, and supports Nigeria’s commitments under the Open Government Partnership (OGP).

‘It also complements the work of anti-corruption agencies such as the ICPC and the EFCC, while reflecting Nigeria’s obligations under the United Nations Convention against Corruption (UNCAC),’ Arabi added.

The Director-General praised the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, development partners, and other stakeholders for their continued collaboration in advancing public sector reforms.

‘Together, we are building stronger institutions for a more accountable and prosperous Nigeria,’ he said.

Since its inception, the Transparency and Integrity Index has served as a benchmark for measuring performance and guiding reforms within the public sector. It continues to provide valuable data that informs policy decisions, strengthens institutional accountability, and encourages MDAs to uphold higher standards of governance.

The Index, according to BPSR, remains one of the agency’s flagship initiatives, symbolising its commitment to ensuring that transparency, integrity, and ethical behaviour become integral parts of Nigeria’s public administration culture.

Community heads (Baales) in Osogbo, the Osun State capital, have thrown their weight behind the Osogbo Elders Council, insisting that the 2026 governorship ticket of major political parties must be zoned to Osogbo.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has fixed Saturday, August 8, 2026, for the state governorship election.

Speaking on Oroki Asala, a current affairs programme on Osun State Broadcasting Corporation (OSBC) Radio, the Baale of Gbodofon and Chairman of the Council of Baales in Osogbo, High Chief Jimoh Ibrahim, emphasised that the town is now more united than ever on the demand to produce a governor.

He credited the Ataoja of Osogbo, Oba Jimoh Oyetunji Olanipekun, for establishing the Osogbo Action Committee and the Osogbo Elders Council to end political divisions that had previously weakened the chances of Osogbo producing a governor.

Ibrahim stressed that the efforts of the Ataoja have already yielded results, with Osogbo speaking in one voice ahead of 2026.

‘The Elders Council has successfully united all Baales in Osogbo. As Chairman of the Council of Baales, I affirm that we stand solidly behind them in this call for an Osogbo indigene to emerge as governor. We will play our part to make it happen,’ he said.

Similarly, Prince Adeleke Oduola Ibiloye, Chairman of the Osogbo Elders Council, reiterated that Osogbo’s long-standing support for other towns must now be reciprocated.

‘We have stood firmly behind others in the past. It is now time for the rest of Osun to support Osogbo. The 2026 governorship slot should be ours, and we are determined to actualise it,’ he declared.

With prominent Osogbo indigenes already eyeing tickets in the All Progressives Congress (APC), Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and African Democratic Congress (ADC), the community leaders expressed optimism that the era of Osogbo’s exclusion from the governorship seat will finally come to an end in 2026.

The Emir of Hadejia and Chairman of the Jigawa Council of Chiefs, Dr Adamu Abubakar Maje, has expressed concern over the deteriorating condition of primary schools within his domain, describing the situation as ‘worrisome and unacceptable.’

The royal father stated this after paying an unscheduled visit to several primary schools in Ayama District of Auyo Local Government Area, where he observed dilapidated classrooms, absence of desks for pupils, and shortage of teaching materials.

Maje lamented that many pupils were forced to sit on bare floors while learning in leaking or cracked classrooms. He urged Governor Umar Namadi to embark on similar surprise visits across the state ‘to see things for himself and boost the morale of hardworking teachers.’

He disclosed that the emirate council would compile a detailed report on the state of education in the area and forward the same to the government for urgent intervention.

The Emir of Hadejia also appealed to parents and guardians to play active roles in school monitoring and support, rather than abandoning everything to the government.

Responding to the concerns, the Executive Chairman of the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Prof. Haruna Musa, admitted that the challenges were ‘a product of decades of accumulated neglect’ which could not be fixed overnight.

According to him, the present administration under Governor Namadi has intensified efforts through massive construction and renovation of classrooms under both the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) intervention and state-funded projects.

‘Recently, over 300 projects were advertised for tender under the 2023 UBEC intervention. Tender opening was conducted last week, and contract awards are now in progress,’ he said, adding that preparations for the 2024 phase are already underway.

However, Musa decried what he described as the ‘unpatriotic attitude’ of some communities that vandalise school infrastructure.

‘In many places, people remove iron windows, doors, roofing sheets-even chairs. Worse still, when minor damages occur, instead of fixing them, communities wait for government intervention. By the time we become aware, the damage has escalated,’ he lamented.

The SUBEB chairman appealed for community ownership and protection of school facilities to complement the government’s investment in basic education.
