Telco investments seen to exceed $2 billion this year

Digital transformation is ramping up in the Philippines, with major telecommunications players’ investments for 2026 set to exceed $2 billion.

The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) said telco players’ continued commitment to invest in the Philippines demonstrates the industry’s confidence in the country’s growth story and digital transformation journey.

The agency said that as of August, the combined announced capital investments of PLDT Inc., Globe Telecom Inc. and Converge ICT Solutions Inc. alone amount to approximately $2.21 billion.

Adding Dito Telecommunity Corp.’s expected investments, DICT said total industry capital expenditures for 2026 could reach approximately $2.45 billion.

‘Crossing the $2 billion mark sends a clear message: the telecommunications industry believes in the Philippines,’ DICT Secretary Henry Aguda said.

‘These investments will translate into more infrastructure, better connectivity, new jobs and greater opportunities for Filipinos as we continue building a digital-first economy,’ he said.

Given the telco sector’s vital role in supporting economic growth, innovation, digital government, education, health care, e-commerce, artificial intelligence, cloud services and data center development, Aguda said the investments reflect growing confidence in the Philippines and its digital future.

The DICT said the investments also come as the country accelerates implementation of the Konektadong Pinoy Act, expands the National Fiber Backbone and advances the administration’s goal of making digital services more accessible, affordable and inclusive nationwide.

‘We thank our telecommunications partners for continuing to invest in the Filipino people and in the nation’s future,’ Aguda said.

‘While each company competes in the marketplace, they are united in helping connect communities, grow the economy, create quality jobs and strengthen the foundations of a more digitally empowered Philippines,’ he said.
