The UAAP has suspended University of the East head coach Chris Gavina for four games following his post-game rant after the Red Warriors’ loss against the La Salle Green Archers earlier this week.
Gavina had a profanity-laced rant after UE’s 111-110 defeat against La Salle on October 15.
In the game, Red Warrior Wello Lingolingo was called for an unsportsmanlike foul after a scramble play, which left La Salle guard Kean Baclaan injured with a torn MCL.
Gavina slammed the officiating, as he voiced displeasure on the call.
In a statement on Saturday, the UAAP said Gavina will serve his suspension starting Sunday at against Far Eastern University.
‘During a post-game interview, Coach Gavina directed profanity-laced remarks and displayed unprofessional conduct toward the game officials,’ the UAAP said.
‘As a collegial body representing eight universities, the UAAP upholds the values of camaraderie, sportsmanship, and respect. Coach Gavina’s actions were contrary to these principles,’ he added.
‘As a teacher and leader, a coach sets a high standard for the student-athletes and the university community.’
UE is currently winless through six games.
Lingolingo, who is averaging 14.8 points, 4.0 rebounds and 1.6 assists per game thus far, was also slapped with a three-game suspension following his foul.
