Four individuals were arrested during an anti-illegal gambling operation in Barangay Resurreccion, San Juan town in this province on Tuesday, Oct. 6, police said.
The San Juan Municipal Police Station said the four were caught playing ‘Pining-Pining,’ an illegal card game, with bet money.
Police said the operation was carried out after they received information from a concerned citizen about an alleged illegal gambling activity in the village.
Recovered from the suspects were a set of red playing cards, bet money, a steel table, a brown towel and four monoblock chairs, police said.
The seized items were inventoried and marked at the scene in the presence of the arrested individuals, a barangay official and a barangay tanod, according to police.
The suspects were brought to the San Juan police station after being informed of their constitutional rights and that the operation was being recorded using two alternative recording devices.
They were later taken to the Ilocos Sur District Hospital in Magsingal for medico-legal examination.
Police said a complaint for violation of Presidential Decree No. 1602, which penalizes illegal gambling, was being prepared against the four for appropriate legal action.
