Baste Duterte takes witness stand in Sara Duterte impeachment trial

Davao City Mayor Sebastian ‘Baste’ Duterte on Tuesday took his oath as witness to the impeachment trial of his sister, Vice President Sara Duterte.

The House prosecution panel called for the presentation of Baste Duterte, particularly on the Davao City government’s transactions with GenCorp Industries Inc. – a company supposedly among the business interests of the vice president.

Previous witnesses claimed that 15 food service contracts worth P34,216,900 were awarded by the Davao City government to GenCorp sometime between June 2022 to June 2026.

In that timeframe, Baste and Sara Duterte had already been in government as Davao mayor and vice president, respectively.

The mayor previously denied knowing that his sister is an incorporator or involved with GenCorp, citing the company’s records that do not declare Sara Duterte as a stockholder.

But in the vice president’s statement of assets, liabilities, and net worth, she declared herself a stockholder of GenCorp from 2016 to 2025.

Mayor Duterte was supposed to testify on Monday, but he requested the impeachment court allow him more time to produce the documents asked of him via a subpoena.
