The Bureau of Immigration (BI) on Wednesday said it will hire additional immigration officers in preparation for the Christmas season rush.
BI Commissioner Joel Anthony Viado said the initiative is in response to the projected surge in daily departures and international arrivals during the Christmas and New Year celebrations.
The additional personnel would help the BI strengthen its frontline services at international ports of entry and exit.
‘This initiative ensures that we have adequate manpower to provide faster and more efficient immigration services during the peak travel season,’ he said.
‘Every year, travel peaks after the New Year, and we expect these numbers to rise again, with OFWs (overseas Filipino workers) and returning Filipinos heading back to their overseas destinations,’ Viado added.
Viado said successful applicants will undergo an intensive training program at the Philippine Immigration Academy in Clark on immigration laws, arrival and departure procedures, document inspection, and national security enforcement before deployment.
‘Newly trained Immigration Officers will be deployed at the frontlines in different airports and offices in the country,’ said Viado.
