The Apostolic Vicariate of Calapan (AVC) announced Tuesday morning the death of Bishop Warlito Cajandig, bishop-emeritus of the Apostolic Vicariate of Calapan, who led the local church for 33 years.
‘After a debilitating stroke that resulted in a coma on Sept. 1, 2018, he bravely endured a prolonged illness. He passed away peacefully at 7:18 a.m. on Oct. 21 in Iloilo City, at the age of 81 (1944-2025),’ the AVC said.
It added, ‘Funeral arrangements will be announced in the coming days.’
Ordained a priest in 1970, Cajanding was among the pioneering clergy of the Diocese of Romblon when it was erected in 1974, according to the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines.
Cajanding was appointed the fifth bishop of Calapan in 1989 by Pope John Paul II and has served the apostolic vicariate for nearly three decades
