The Valencia City Chamber of Commerce, Inc. expressed concern over the economic impact of the ongoing closure of the Bukidnon-Davao (Buda) road, warning that prolonged disruption may trigger rising prices of goods and raw materials in the province.
As Valencia City serves as Bukidnon’s major economic hub and consumer center, the chamber said the collapse of a section in the road has affected the steady flow of supplies and trade between Mindanao’s northern and southern regions.
‘The closure of such a vital artery is expected to disrupt the flow of goods and raw materials. Naturally, logistical and transport costs will rise-and that will eventually be passed on to consumers,’ the chamber said in a statement.
It added that small- and medium-enterprises (SMEs) are also feeling the strain, with many expected to raise prices to protect profit margins.
‘We’re holding on to the promise of (DPWH) Secretary Vince Dizon and other officials for the swiftest possible solution to restore this vital road network,’ the statement said.
