Bohol suspended classes at all levels in public and private schools on Monday, November 3, as the provincial government braces for Tropical Storm Tino.
The provincial government convened an emergency meeting on Sunday to prepare for the storm, which is expected to affect parts of the Visayas, including Bohol. Governor Erico Aristotle ‘Aris’ Aumentado, chair of the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC), said the province is ready for any eventuality, with contingency plans in place for worst-case scenarios.
The PDRRMC has also ordered the prepositioning of response assets and personnel, particularly in northern Bohol, as Tino enters the Philippine Area of Responsibility.
The province has also canceled the 129th Carlos P. Garcia Day celebration scheduled for Tuesday, November 4, a special non-working holiday in Bohol. The event, which annually honors the life and legacy of President Carlos P. Garcia, will be rescheduled.
Emerson Pinos, head of the Center for Culture and Arts Development, said authorities are looking for an alternative date for the activities.
Meanwhile, Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Officer Anthony Damalerio warned the public against non-essential travel due to expected heavy rains and strong winds.
He said vehicles transporting patients from district hospitals to the Gov. Celestino Gallares Medical Center are already being monitored for safety.
Tourism operations, including Loboc River floating restaurant cruises, have also been suspended starting Monday until further notice due to unfavorable weather conditions.
Aumentado assured that all local government units remain on high alert as Bohol braces for Tino’s potential impact.
