A non-commissioned police officer stationed in Surigao del Sur was named the country’s top investigator for women and children’s protection cases during a national summit in Zamboanga City, regional police officials said on Thursday.
Chief Master Sergeant Christine Intano of the Carrascal Municipal Police Station received the Outstanding Senior Women and Children Protection Desk (WCPD) Police Non-Commissioned Officer (PNCO) of the Year 2026 award during the 14th Philippine National Police (PNP) National Biennial Summit of Women in Community Policing, held from Oct. 26 to 28 at the Garden Orchid Hotel.
She topped hundreds of female investigators nominated by police regional offices nationwide, according to Police Regional Office 13 (PRO-13) based in Camp Col. Rafael C. Rodriguez in Butuan City.
Brig. Gen. Rolindo Suguilon, PRO-13 director, commended Intano for her dedicated service and relentless handling of cases involving gender-based violence and child exploitation.
‘PCMS Intano’s achievement brings pride to PNP Caraga and serves as an inspiration to fellow police personnel, particularly those serving in WCPDs,’ Suguilon said. ‘This recognition is also a testament to her unwavering commitment to duties and her invaluable contribution to the protection of women and children in Caraga.’
At the Carrascal Municipal Police Station, police chief Major Elmar Claret hailed Intano’s national honor, noting that her achievement brings immense pride to their municipal force.
‘Her dedication, exemplary service, and unwavering commitment to women and children’s welfare bring pride and honor to Carrascal MPS,’ Claret said in a statement. ‘May her achievement inspire others to serve with compassion, integrity, and excellence.’
The three-day summit gathered police officers, child rights advocates, community organizers, and partner agencies to exchange best practices, review policy implementation, and push for more responsive, community-oriented law enforcement models.
PNP Chief Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. and his wife Rose, who serves as national adviser to the Officers’ Ladies Club Foundation, Inc., led the ceremony.
Under the theme ‘Advancing Women in Policing through Excellence, Innovation, and Inclusive Service Towards Safer and More Resilient Communities,’ the national biennial summit honors exemplary women officers spearheading grassroots interventions, legal action, and psychosocial support for vulnerable sectors.
