Palace Press Officer Claire Castro on Tuesday likened fake news peddlers to ‘gremlins’ that multiply, even when it is not raining.
This playful comparison came as Castro vowed a fiercer fight against fake news that she believes are meant to bring down the administration and President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.
‘We should be even braver when our opponents are sometimes people we cannot see,’ Castro said at a briefing in Cagayan de Oro City.
‘They may appear to be just one account, but there are actually many. They’re like gremlins, right? They multiply even when it’s not raining,’ she warned.
‘So, let us fight this together. Let us join hands, so to speak, in combating fake news,’ she added.
A gremlin is a small, mischievous creature, often depicted as causing trouble or multiplying in unexpected ways.
Castro then called on mainstream media to help the government spread information about its programs.
Additionally, she urged the public to always verify information they see on social media.
Castro also belied a circulating report that she could be appointed as the next associate justice of the Supreme Court, saying she had not even applied for the position.
