DigiPlus Interactive Corp. has paused the operations of its new game brand in Brazil nearly a month after its ‘soft launch.’ The full rollout is, instead, scheduled in early 2026.
In a disclosure on Friday, the company led by tycoon Eusebio Tanco said it had opted for a ‘strategic pause’ of GamePlus, its ‘uniquely local’ game in Brazil.
‘We are taking this strategic step to pause GamePlus in Brazil so we can come back stronger with a digital entertainment offering that is not only locally relevant but also resonates deeply with Brazilian culture and entertainment habits,’ DigiPlus chair Eusebio Tanco said in a statement.
DigiPlus officially began its Brazil operations on Sept. 22, marking its international debut.
The company said that, in the past three weeks, it had been capturing Brazilian player behavior, cultural preferences and entertainment dynamics.
These will come into play as DigiPlus improves GamePlus in time for a 2026 full-scale relaunch, the company said.
DigiPlus has recently been battered because of the government’s supposed crackdown on online gambling platforms.
Its share price has so far plummeted by 63 percent to P24.30 from its 52-week high.
As a result of increasing government scrutiny, e-wallet platforms were ordered to delink from online gaming websites and applications like DigiPlus.
For its part, DigiPlus tapped bills payment service provider Bayad Center to allow its players to top up and cash out through the latter’s branches across the country. DigiPlus is likewise keen on expanding overseas. Last month, it filed applications for three operator licenses in South Africa, its potential second international market. /rwd
