Air travel has become faster for passengers at Iloilo International Airport after authorities removed the initial screening checkpoint, a reform measure aimed at easing congestion and improving the passenger experience in line with global aviation standards.
Implemented on October 10, the new setup forms part of a nationwide directive from the Department of Transportation (DOTr) Acting Secretary Giovanni Lopez, aimed at eliminating redundant security checks across all airports while ensuring strict compliance with international aviation protocols.
The initiative follows President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s call to modernize and streamline airport operations, aligning the country’s gateways with international best practices.
Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) Director General Ret. Lt. Gen. Raul Del Rosario said the move underscores the country’s commitment to creating smarter, more efficient, and passenger-friendly airports.
‘This reform enhances passenger comfort without compromising safety-putting our airports on par with global standards,’ Del Rosario said in a statement.
As part of the transition, authorities reactivated the Employees’ Entrance, a secure access point for airport personnel aimed at improving internal mobility and strengthening overall terminal security.
CAAP Area Center VI Acting Manager Engr. Eusebio Monserate Jr. said the Iloilo implementation reflects a modern approach to airport management, striking a balance between efficiency and security.
‘We’re streamlining processes without sacrificing safety. This is modern airport management in action,’ Monserate said.
Before the rollout, the Airport Security Committee conducted a comprehensive review of current procedures, including the redeployment of screening equipment and personnel, to ensure compliance with global aviation safety standards.
Officials assured the public that despite the removal of the first checkpoint, Iloilo International Airport remains fully compliant with international safety regulations, integrating speed, security, and service in one seamless passenger experience./coa
