LRT-1 train unloads after smoke emanated from passengers’ phone

The Light Rail Manila Corporation (LRMC) on Thursday said a smoke incident occurred inside a Light Rail Transit Line-1 (LRT-1) train, but was successfully addressed, preventing any effects on its operations.

According to the LRMC in a statement, the smoke originated from a mobile phone left on the floor of a train at the Central Terminal Station, northbound platform, at around 10:02 p.m. on ThursdayThe LRMC said a certain passenger left the phone out of panic due to its sudden emission of smoke.

‘The train driver’s swift action in removing the phone from the train prevented any escalation,’ the LRMC said.

‘Security and station personnel instantly responded to secure the area,’ it added.

However, the LRMC said the incident still resulted in unloading the train’s passengers at the LRT-1 Central Terminal Station for thorough inspection of the vehicle.

Thankfully, no damage or suspicious objects were found thereafter.

‘We are pleased to report that the incident had no major effects on the overall operations of the LRT-1,’ the LRMC said. /mr
