Magnitude 4.3 aftershock jolts Cebu, Leyte

A magnitude 4.3 aftershock struck near Bogo City in Cebu, the Philippine Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) reported on Tuesday, Oct. 7.

Phivolcs said it was an aftershock of the magnitude 6.9 earthquake that struck offshore Northern Cebu on Sept. 30.

The aftershock was recorded at 9:29 a.m. at a depth of 10 kilometers (km), with its epicenter located 20 km south southeast of Bogo City.

Instrumental intensities were logged at Intensity II in Villaba, Leyte. This means that it was slightly felt by individuals at rest indoors.

Intensity I was logged in Danao City, Cebu City, and Hilongos, Leyte.

Phivolcs describes this tremor as only ‘scarcely perceptible to people under favorable circumstances.’

As of 8 a.m. this Tuesday, 8,253 aftershocks have been recorded, 1,539 were plotted, and 34 were felt.
