A magnitude 5.1 earthquake struck Negros Occidental, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) reported on Tuesday, Oct. 7.
The earthquake was of tectonic origin, which means that it was produced by sudden movement along faults and plate boundaries.
It was recorded at 8:04 a.m., with an epicenter located 42 kilometers (km) north-northwest of Sipalay City at a depth of 11 km.
A reported intensity of Intensity II in Iloilo City was logged. According to Phivolcs, at this level, the tremor is ‘slightly felt’ by a few individuals at rest indoors.
Meanwhile, Instrumental Intensity I was recorded in Bago City, Negros Occidental. At this level, the tremor is ‘scarcely perceptible.’
There was no damage reported, but Phivolcs is expecting aftershocks
