The impeachment complaint that Cavite 4th District Rep. Elpidio ‘Kiko’ Barzaga Jr. intends to file against President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. is unlikely to advance in the House of Representatives, as it is not among the chamber’s priorities, Speaker Faustino ‘Bojie’ Dy III said Friday.
Dy also said he had neither heard of Barzaga’s plan nor seen a copy of the supposed complaint.
‘We haven’t received anything yet, but there are many issues we need to address. First and foremost, our country is facing numerous problems. We must prioritize these because the pleas of our farmers need solutions; that’s what we are focusing on right now,’ Dy said in Filipino in an interview with DZMM on Friday.
Asked if the impeachment would fail, he replied: ‘Yes.’
‘But what I mean is, no complaint has been filed, and I haven’t heard that he is planning to file an impeachment complaint against the President,’ he added.
On Thursday night, Barzaga uploaded a video on his TikTok account announcing his intention to file an impeachment complaint against Marcos.
Inside the House of Representatives session hall, he showed a copy of the complaint.
‘I have a surprise for you. the Marcos impeachment complaint,’ Barzaga said, focusing the camera on the document.
‘On the grounds of betrayal of public trust, I am filing an impeachment complaint against Marcos, and hopefully Congress will remove him so we can start investigating those involved in the flood control anomalies,’ he added./mcm
