Jose Rizal University avoided back-to-back losses in the NCAA Season 101 men’s basketball tournament after downing San Sebastian, 59-46, on Wednesday at San Juan Arena.
Coming off a loss to College of St. Benilde, the Heavy Bombers regained their footing behind a strong defensive effort to improve to 3-2 in Group B.
‘I just reiterated to our players that we’re a small team so we can’t be outhustled,’ said JRU coach Nani Epondulan. ‘If there’s a team who’s more agressive and hungrier, that should be us.’
Sean Salvador led JRU with 22 points, while Justin Lozano added 11.
The Golden Stags fell to 1-4 after struggling to find their rhythm, with no player scoring in double figures. Jhuniel Dela Rama came close to a double-double with nine points and 15 rebounds in the loss.
