Lyceum kept its hopes of avoiding the play-in alive, rolling past San Sebastian, 88-74, in the NCAA Season 101 men’s basketball tournament Saturday at San Juan Arena.
The Pirates climbed to 3-8, jumping ahead of the Golden Stags, who slipped to the bottom of Group A at 3-9. Lyceum is now three games behind third seed Arellano (4-6) as the eliminations wind down.
‘We’re almost there. The league is almost at the end, so we need to win every game,’ Lyceum coach Gilbert Malabanan said. ‘If we do get play-in, then it’s important that our confidence is high.’
Perpetual Help (8-3) and defending champion Mapua (6-5) continue to pace the group.
Gyle Montaño led the Pirates with 22 points, while Renz Villegas added 14 points, six rebounds and two steals.
Jhuniel Dela Rama powered San Sebastian with 19 points and seven boards, and Ralph Gabat added 13 and five, but the Stags couldn’t keep pace.
