The agriculture sector in Oriental Mindoro sustained severe damage from three successive typhoons that battered the province from September to November, according to the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO).
In its consolidated report furnished to the Inquirer, the PDRRMO said agricultural losses reached P1.496 billion during Typhoon Opong (international name: Bualoi) and P24.983 million during Super Typhoon Uwan (international name: Fung-wong). No agricultural damage was reported during Typhoon Tino.
‘Damage to infrastructure during Typhoon Opong is P169.500 million, and P940,000 during Typhoon Uwan. We also incurred damages to education infrastructures amounting to P2.038 million, and P1.114 million to the tourism sector,’ PDRRMO head Vinscent Gahol said in a message on Friday.
Gahol added that 15,997 houses were damaged during Opong, three houses during Tino, and 889 houses during Uwan.
The report also noted that 61,960 families (213,608 individuals) were affected by Opong; 2,962 families (10,917 individuals) during Tino; and 24,891 families (84,553 individuals) during Uwan.
