Over 1,000 Olongapo residents evacuated amid flooding

A total of 1,076 individuals from 336 families were evacuated in nearby Olongapo City amid flooding caused by continuing rains brought by the southwest monsoon.

The evacuees have taken shelter in 10 evacuation centers across the city, according to the latest evacuation data on Tuesday.

The largest number of evacuees was recorded in Barangay Sta. Rita, with 592 individuals from 177 families staying at two evacuation centers.

Barangay New Kababae and Barangay New Ilalim also recorded high numbers of evacuees, with 175 individuals from 56 families and 107 individuals from 40 families, respectively.

Other evacuees were from Mabayuan, Old Cabalan, Kalaklan, Gordon Heights, West Tapinac, and West Bajac-Bajac.

The evacuations came as water levels beneath three bridges in the city rose to spilling level Monday afternoon amid continuing habagat rains.

At 4:45 p.m., water levels at the Del Rosario, Sta. Rita and Kalaklan bridges reached 4 meters each before dropping later in the afternoon.

The weather bureau had forecast 50 to 100 millimeters of rain in Zambales until Wednesday.
