Senator Francis Pangilinan and Mamamayang Liberal party-list Rep. Leila de Lima both released copies of their Statements of Assets, Liabilities and Net Worth (SALNs) on Friday, with the Liberal Party (LP) promising to do the same for all of its members.
During the ‘Kung Walang Korap, Walang Mahirap’ (if there’s no corrupt, no one is poor) fellowship event of the party, Pangilinan delivered a speech about how LP intends to promote accountability amid the corruption scandals plaguing the government.
‘All Liberal party officials – from the highest-ranked to the lowest-ranked – we will release our Statements of Assets, Liabilities at Net Worth,’ he told the audience.
‘That’s why now, I am calling on Mamamayang Liberal party-list Rep. Leila de Lima. We will start it here. We will make public our SALNs,’ the LP chairperson said.
‘We cannot ask for transparency if we will not live by it. We cannot condemn corruption if we condone it within our own backyard,’ Pangilinan noted.
‘That’s why, as the chairman of the Liberal Party, this is my promise to the Filipino people: We will clean our ranks. We will expel any member who has been involved in corruption, regardless of how high their position is in government or how influential they are,’ he said.
Pangilinan’s office released printed copies of his SALN to media covering the event.
It showed that he has five agricultural lands and a residential land for his real properties, with an acquisition cost totaling to P5.8 million, while his personal properties – cash, furniture, jewelry, books, vehicles and stocks – amounted to P20.8 million
This resulted into a total asset worth P26.7 million, which is also the senator’s net worth since he did not declare any liability.
De Lima, meanwhile, is the 12th House lawmaker to release a copy of their SALN.
After the event, de Lima’s office sent to reporters redacted copies of the SALN, showing that she has five agricultural lands, one commercial, and one residential area, with a total estimated value of P1.4 million.
She also declared several personal properties like private insurance premiums, furniture, appliances, cars, jewelry and cash on hand and on bank – with a total worth of P9.2 million.
With no liabilities recorded, de Lima’s net worth is P10.7 million.
Last Wednesday, House Speaker Faustino ‘Bojie’ Dy III shared redacted copies of his SALN, showing that he has assets worth P121.1 million, and liabilities of around P47.1 million – resulting in a net worth of P74 million.
As early as Last September 1 though, members of the Akbayan Reform Bloc in the House – Akbayan party-list Reps. Chel Diokno, Percival Cendaña and Dadah Kiram Ismula, along with Dinagat Islands Rep. Kaka Bag-ao – released copies of their SALN as a first step towards regaining the people’s trust in the government.
Just last Friday, members of the Makabayan bloc – ACT Teachers party-list Rep. Antonio Tinio, Gabriela party-list Rep. Sarah Elago and Kabataan party-list Rep. Renee Co – also released their SALNs. Cavite 4th District Rep. Francisco ‘Kiko’ Barzaga did the same on Tuesday, showing that he has a net worth of P5.3 million.
Kamanggagawa party-list Rep. Eli San Fernando and Negros Occidental 1st District Rep. Jules Ledesma also released their SALNs.
