Police chief denies tagging ‘prominent personality’ in Batangas shooting

San Jose, Batangas police chief Maj. Florencio Caisip Jr. denied reports attributing to him a description of one of the suspects in the killing of a 22-year-old working student as a prominent personality in the province.

The victim, a musician, was riding a motorcycle when suspects aboard a car shot him in Barangay Banay-Banay II at around 9 p.m. on Oct. 25.

The musician was declared dead on arrival at a hospital.

‘I did not make that description during the interview with a TV reporter out of respect for the individual’s privacy,’ Caisip told the Inquirer in a phone interview on Monday afternoon.

He said six individuals – four persons of interest and two unidentified suspects listed as ‘John Does’ – have been charged with murder before the Batangas Provincial Prosecutor’s Office on Oct. 29.

Caisip said investigators were looking into a possible love triangle as the motive for the killing.
