Overcast skies with rain are expected Friday across many parts of the Philippines, the state weather bureau said.
‘Three weather systems are bringing rain to several parts of the country,’ said Loriedin Dela Cruz, weather specialist at the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa).
Dela Cruz explained that the intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ) is affecting parts of Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao. Easterlies are influencing the eastern part of Luzon, while a shearline prevails in extreme northern Luzon.
Cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms are expected in the Zamboanga Peninsula, Bangsamoro Autonomous Region, Negros Island Region, Sarangani, Sultan Kudarat, and Palawan due to the ITCZ.
Similar conditions are forecast for Aurora, Quezon, and Camarines Norte due to easterlies, while Batanes and the Babuyan Islands may experience the same weather due to the shearline.
Meanwhile, Metro Manila and other areas of the country are likely to see fair weather, with partly cloudy to cloudy skies and isolated rain showers or thunderstorms.
Dela Cruz said the former Tropical Depression Salome, now a low-pressure area, no longer affects the country. It was last spotted 270 km east of Laoag City, Ilocos Norte.
‘We expected that, in the coming hours, it would already dissipate,’ she added.
