Sara Duterte vows to sustain fight vs corruption in government

Vice President Sara Duterte on Monday vowed to continue fighting the ‘greed’ of ‘high-ranking officials’ in the government.

Duterte said this as she delivered the Office of the Vice President’s (OVP) year-end report, particularly in its projects.

‘Mga kababayan, patuloy tayong lalaban sa kasakiman ng mga iilang mataas na opisyal ng ating pamahalaan,’ said Duterte in a video statement, without naming names.

(My fellow citizens, we will continue to fight against the greed of a few high-ranking officials in government.)

‘Patuloy namin na ipapakita sa inyo ng aming Tanggapan na mahalaga ang pagkakaroon ng plano, mahusay na implementasyon ng proyekto, paglaban sa korapsyon, at tapang at malasakit para magkaroon ng kaunlaran sa ating bayan,’ she added.

(Our Office will continue to show you that having a plan, proper project implementation, fighting corruption, and demonstrating courage and compassion are essential for achieving national progress.)

Duterte’s remarks come amid the flood control scandal, described as the biggest corruption scandal in recent years, with several government officials, including lawmakers and even President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., being linked.

It should be noted, however, that Duterte herself was also accused of misusing both the Department of Education and her office’s funds from 2022 to 2024.

Meanwhile, among the projects Duterte highlighted in her year-end report was her office’s Medical and Burial Assistance program.

She reported that 4,643 ailing Filipinos have received medical aid, while 1,377 burial assistance packages were likewise extended.

Duterte also reported that the OVP has helped a total of 73,054 Filipino families in various calamities this year, while the office’s free bus ride program served a total of 875,176 commuters nationwide from January to October.

A total 56,575 bags of rice and essential food items were also successfully delivered to beneficiaries through the OVP’s RIICE Program.

The OVP also reached its target in its tree planting campaign, successfully planting over 1 million trees in various parts of the country in 2025.

A total of 460,272 bags were also distributed through her office’s Million Learners Campaign.

Another main program of the OVP, the Mag Negosyo Ta ‘Day, also supported 15 groups and 2,245 aspiring business owners in 2025.
