Strong currents, heavy rainfall damage Ilocos Sur bridge

Authorities have temporarily closed the Balidbid Bridge in the Ilocos Sur town of Salcedo after strong currents triggered by continuous heavy rainfall damaged its temporary crossing.

In a public advisory issued Friday (August 7), the Salcedo Public Information Office said the closure was necessary to ensure public safety while repair and restoration works are being undertaken.

Local officials advised residents, motorists, and travelers to avoid the area and take alternate routes until further notice.

Authorities said an official announcement will be released once the bridge has been assessed and declared safe and passable.

Ilocos Sur continues to be hammered by rains from recent tropical cyclones and the southwest monsoon, causing flooding, landslides, and infrastructure damage in several areas
