Taal Volcano in Batangas recorded 33 volcanic earthquakes on Sunday, Oct. 26, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) reported Monday morning.
Of these, 10 were volcanic tremors lasting between two and 298 minutes, Phivolcs said.
The agency also logged one minor phreatic eruption and two minor phreatomagmatic eruptions at Taal on Sunday, each lasting one to four minutes.
Both eruptions are caused by magma vaporizing water into steam. Phreatomagmatic explosions involve fresh magma, while phreatic eruptions originate from pre-existing magma or magma-heated materials.
The first phreatomagmatic eruption produced plumes reaching 1,200 meters above the volcano’s main crater, while the second generated plumes rising 2,100 meters.
Phivolcs reported that the plumes moved southwest.
Since Saturday, Taal Volcano has been releasing an estimated 436 tons of sulfur dioxide per day, according to Phivolcs.
Despite the activity, Taal remains under Alert Level 1, indicating low levels of unrest.
