The Visayas grid will once again be placed under red and yellow alerts on Tuesday, Oct. 27, due to insufficient power supply, the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) said.
In an advisory, the NGCP said the red alert would be in effect from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m., while yellow alerts would be in effect from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. and from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.
The NGCP said a red alert is issued when the power supply is insufficient to meet consumer demand and the grid’s regulating requirements, while a yellow alert means the operating margin is insufficient to meet the grid’s contingency requirements.
The NGCP cited the unavailability of coal plants TVI 1, TVI 2 and KSPC 1, along with limited power imports from Mindanao due to the planned outages of GNPK 4 and TSI 2, as factors behind the alerts.
As of 7:30 a.m., the available capacity in the Visayas grid stood at 2,452 megawatts (MW), below the peak demand of 2,482 MW.
