A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr Musa Illiyasu Kwankwaso, has claimed that President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid has brought together politicians who previously could not agree on political issues.
Kwankwaso made the assertion on Thursday while reacting to the inauguration of the APC Presidential Campaign Council, which included prominent figures from other political parties.
The Director of Finance at the Hadejia-Jama’are River Basin Development Authority argued that the involvement of politicians associated with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Labour Party and Accord Party demonstrated growing support for Tinubu beyond the APC.
‘It has never happened in Nigeria’s political history that one man could attract nearly all opposition parties, not only opposition politicians, but people who have never agreed to sit together yet, because of Tinubu, they have accepted to come on board and pursue a common goal,’ he said.
Kwankwaso described Wednesday’s inauguration of Tinubu’s campaign council as a significant development ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
‘To me, the inauguration of the Campaign Council is like a congregation celebrating the re-election of President Tinubu back to office,’ he stated.
The APC chieftain also defended the President’s economic policies, arguing that his administration deserved more time to implement its reforms despite the hardship confronting Nigerians.
He cited comments by Anambra State Governor Chukwuma Soludo and other political figures as evidence of what he described as growing recognition of the administration’s economic challenges and policy direction.
Kwankwaso maintained that the 2027 presidential election would have implications beyond Tinubu’s political future, particularly for Nigeria’s economic direction.
He also expressed confidence that political cooperation at the national level would extend to Kano State.
According to him, prominent politicians in Kano would work together to support Tinubu’s re-election as well as the return of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf and Murtala Sule Garo for another term.
His remarks followed the inauguration of the APC Presidential Campaign Council in Abuja, attended by politicians from different political backgrounds, including FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke and Anambra State Governor Chukwuma Soludo.
Their participation, however, does not establish that their respective political parties have formally endorsed Tinubu’s re-election.
