The Rivers State chapter of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has said its governorship aspirant in the May 2026 primary election, Dr Sokonte Davies, was disappointed after failing to secure the party’s ticket.
The party made this known while reacting to Davies’ decision to join the Rainbow Coalition, a political group formed by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.
Recall that Davies met with Wike in Port Harcourt on Wednesday morning and announced his decision to join the Rainbow Coalition ahead of the 2027 general election.
Reacting to the development, the ADC said Davies’ disappointment over losing the party’s governorship primary had taken him on ‘an interesting political journey.’
The party said Davies had moved from seeking the ticket of a political party to joining a coalition that does not have a governorship ticket to offer him.
The ADC said it found the development difficult to understand.
‘We confess that we are struggling to follow the mathematics,’ the party said.
It added that if Davies’ complaint was about not getting the governorship ticket of the ADC, he should have moved to a political platform where a governorship ticket was available.
‘If the grievance was about not getting a governorship ticket in the ADC, one would have expected the next destination to be somewhere a governorship ticket was actually available,’ the party said.
However, the ADC said politics was a matter of personal choice and that Davies had the right to choose his political path.
‘We only hope that when the excitement of the new photographs and handshakes settles, he finds whatever political fulfilment he could not find after the ADC primary,’ the party said.
