Airports told to brace for rain

The Department of Airports has been instructed to prepare its facilities in the South for heavy rain, deputy government spokeswoman Ploythalay Laksameesaengjan says.

She said the Transport Ministry has directed all southern airports under its oversight to closely monitor the situation and adhere strictly to safety standards.

The Meteorological Department has predicted ongoing rain, with heavy to very heavy downpours expected in some areas, she said.

There is also a possibility of flooding, flash floods, forest runoff and landslides in at-risk areas across 10 southern provinces until Monday, she said.

Airports have been advised to review their emergency response plans, prepare staff and equipment, and collaborate with local agencies, she said.

If conditions or facilities are determined to be unsafe for flight operations, access to affected areas may be restricted or closed as necessary, she said.

Ms Ploythalay said that airports must keep passengers informed of any updates and provide necessary assistance, with safety being the top priority.
