Beijing has reaffirmed its neutral stance, urging Thailand and Cambodia to resolve their border dispute through Asean principles and peaceful dialogue.
The Thai Journalists Association yesterday held its seventh “Understanding Modern China: What the Media Should Know” workshop in Bangkok.
Chinese Ambassador to Thailand Zhang Jianwei presided over the opening ceremony and delivered a keynote speech, attended by Norrinee Ruangnoo, president of the Thai Journalists Association, members of the association’s subcommittee, and representatives from both Thai and Chinese media.
Mr Zhang emphasised the enduring friendship between China and Thailand, noting that 2025 marks the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations.
He also praised Thailand’s efforts to curb online gambling and cyber fraud, while calling for deeper cooperation in law enforcement, security, and justice to promote regional stability.
On the Thai-Cambodian border conflict, Mr Zhang reiterated China’s neutral stance, encouraging both nations to resolve disputes through dialogue in accordance with Asean principles.
He expressed China’s readiness to facilitate peace talks at the request of both sides, contributing constructively to regional peace and ceasefire compliance.
The ambassador also discussed China’s upcoming 15th Five-Year Plan, which will begin next year following the successful completion of the 14th plan.
The new plan was approved during the fourth plenary session of the Communist Party’s 20th Central Committee held between Oct 20 and 23 in Beijing.
Mr Zhang noted that by 2035, China expects to achieve modernisation under socialism, with per capita income comparable to that of moderately developed countries and a higher standard of living for its people.
In addition, it is the world’s largest and fastest-growing clean energy user, as renewable energy now accounts for one-third of its total power use.
Mr Zhang concluded that China remains committed to open, inclusive, and multilateral cooperation, including plans to promote the Belt and Road Initiative and deliver platforms for international collaboration.
