FDA warns of online pet scam

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has warned consumers against buying animal medicines from a Facebook page accused of taking payments without delivering products.

In its warning issued on Tuesday, the FDA said the page advertises tick and flea spot-on treatments, claiming to be a direct distributor offering safe purchases at affordable prices.

However, the FDA found reports on Blacklistseller alleging that customers had transferred money but received no goods.

The agency said the treatments are controlled medicines that cannot legally be sold online.

Buyers risk losing money or receiving counterfeit, substandard or unsafe products that could deprive pets of proper treatment and endanger their lives.

Pet owners should consult a veterinarian for diagnosis and treatment, verify product authorisation and purchase medicines only from licensed pharmacies.
