Passengers travelling with bicycles or foldable electric scooters will be able to use the MRT network for free today as part of World Car Free Day 2026.
The Mass Rapid Transit Authority of Thailand (MRTA) and operators of the four MRT lines announced the fare waiver as part of a global campaign to reduce traffic congestion and greenhouse gas emissions and encourage public transport use.
The exemption will apply throughout operating hours on all four lines. Passengers can obtain free travel coupons or tickets at ticket offices at all stations.
The Blue and Purple lines are operated by Bangkok Expressway and Metro Plc (BEM), while the Yellow and Pink lines are operated by Eastern Bangkok Monorail Co (EBM) and Northern Bangkok Monorail Co (NBM).
For safety, passengers must not ride bicycles or scooters inside MRT stations or trains, or place them where they obstruct other passengers.
Bicycles and scooters must also remain folded while passengers are on trains.
