The family of a woman missing for nearly a week has appealed to the public for help, after her boyfriend denied seeing her despite CCTV footage showing him picking her on the day she was last seen.
Chantra Muangkao, 50, told reporters on Thursday that her daughter Wichuda ‘Lookpla’ Chansungnoen left home by car at around 8pm on Aug 28, saying she had errands to run.
The family later learned that Ms Wichuda, 33, had driven to the home of her cousin, Kai, and left her car there at around 10pm. CCTV footage subsequently showed her boyfriend, identified as Nut, arriving in a white pickup truck and driving away with her. The couple had reportedly broken up and reconciled several times. Ms Chantra said their relationship had also involved physical altercations, prompting her to repeatedly urge her daughter to end the relationship.
When Ms Chantra contacted Mr Nut, he denied having seen her, saying it had been about a month since they last met. He reportedly blocked Ms Chantra after she told him that CCTV showed him picking up her daughter on Aug 28.
Ms Wichuda’s 10-year-old son told reporters that he last spoke to his mother on the evening of Aug 28. She told him she was travelling to another province to run an errand.
The boy later contacted Mr Nut to ask about his mother, but he reportedly said they were not together and claimed he was outside the country for work.
Ms Chantra said Ms Wichuda was devoted to her son and also helped care for her. She said it was unlike her daughter to leave without contacting them for several days.
Police at the Lat Ya police station confirmed that Ms Chantra had filed a missing-person report. Officers tracing the white pickup truck said it was last spotted in Chiang Mai.
Neither Mr Nut nor Ms Wichuda had been located as of Thursday.
Ms Chantra appealed to her daughter to return home if she is safe, saying the family remains deeply concerned for her welfare.
