An officer attached to Pak Kret police station has been immediately transferred from his post and placed at the Operations Centre of the Nonthaburi provincial police pending disciplinary and criminal investigations over an alleged assault on a fellow officer.
Pol Maj Gen Siriwat Deepho, spokesman for the Royal Thai Police (RTP), said the action followed a complaint filed on Nov 1 by a police non-commissioned officer from the commando unit, who alleged that he was assaulted by a police senior sergeant major assigned to Pak Kret station and another man.
The incident occurred late on Oct 31 at a karaoke venue in the Muang Thong Thani area of Nonthaburi. The victim submitted photographs and video footage of the incident to investigators for use as evidence in legal proceedings.
Nonthaburi provincial police commander Pol Maj Gen Thammanoon Chaowawanich has ordered a an investigation and established a disciplinary inquiry committee. The officer accused in the incident has been reassigned from his original post.
Police said the victim reported that he had been dining and listening to music at the venue when the suspect officer and another man, identified only as “Ton,” approached him.
Although both parties introduced themselves as police officers, the suspect allegedly struck the commando officer without provocation and challenged him, asking whether he was a commando officer.
The victim alleged the men then repeatedly punched and slapped him, causing him to lose consciousness. He suffered head injuries, a ruptured blood vessel in his right eye, a nose injury, and lacerations inside his mouth.
The RTP said it maintains a strict policy on discipline and professional conduct. Any officer found to have violated the law or engaged in misconduct will face both disciplinary and criminal action without exception, the spokesman said.
The investigation remains ongoing.
