Police arrested two people found squatting in an abandoned bank building in Mueang district on Monday morning and charged them with trespass and methamphetamine use.
Pol Col Yosawat Kaewsuebthanyanich, superintendent of mueang police, said they received a report at 9am of people being seen in an abandoned building in tambon Nai Mueang. The property is owned by Siam Commercial Bank.
Police sent to the scene discovered the building had been occupied by homeless people, with bedding and other personal gear on the premises.(story continues below) Two people were found hiding inside the building. Anat Rieamsaen, 33, from Sakon Nakhon, and Duangjai Khruaboon, 37, from Khon Kaen, allegedly admitted to having trespassed and occupied the premises without permission for some time.
Under questioning, the pair also admitted to drug use. Urine tests at Khon Kaen Hospital confirmed the presence of methamphetamine, police said.
The suspects face charges of trespassing, property damage and possession of a category 1 drug (methamphetamine). They were held in custody for legal proceedings.
