The Director-General of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council, Senator Abdulazeez Yari, has said the party’s campaign for the 2027 general election will focus on the achievements of the President Bola Tinubu administration rather than making new promises or attacking political opponents.
Yari made the disclosure on Wednesday in Gusau, Zamfara State, shortly after a closed-door meeting with Governor Dauda Lawal and traditional rulers in the state.
According to him, the APC intends to run an issue-based campaign centred on the performance of the current administration and its plans for the country if re-elected.
He said despite the challenges Nigeria has faced over the years, including periods when some predicted the country would break apart, Nigerians have continued to demonstrate their commitment to preserving national unity.
‘Nigeria is a wonderful country. We have been seeing so many things which some predicted that Nigeria will not continue as a country, from June 12 to others. This is where we are. Nigerians continue to ensure this country remains a united country,’ Yari said.
The former Zamfara State governor described President Tinubu as a leader committed to Nigeria’s development.
‘Tinubu is beyond any other person. He is for Nigerians, and a leader that loves this country without any fear of contradiction,’ he said.
Yari added that the APC’s 2027 campaign would not be driven by fresh campaign promises but by what he described as the achievements of the APC-led administration.
He explained that his first official engagement as Director-General of the campaign council was with traditional rulers because of their influence and close relationship with their communities.
According to him, seeking the support and blessings of the traditional institution is important to the success of the campaign.
Governor Dauda Lawal said the meeting was organised to formally introduce Yari, an indigene of Zamfara State, to the traditional rulers following his appointment as Director-General of the APC Presidential Campaign Council.
‘It is important for us to hand him over to them to seek for their support. This is the reason for the meeting,’ the governor said.
Lawal also assured the APC Presidential Campaign Council of what he described as the full support of the people of Zamfara State for President Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election.
