2027: Olubadan urges youths to shun political violence, thuggery

The Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, has urged Nigerian youths to shun bitterness and political violence as the 2027 general elections approach.

The monarch made the call on Wednesday while receiving students of the Leadership Centre, University of Abuja, who paid a courtesy visit to his palace in Ibadan.

Ladoja, who spoke through the Balogun of Ibadanland, Oba Tajudeen Ajibola, urged youths, particularly students, to play active roles in nation-building and resist being used for activities that could undermine the electoral process.

He said, ‘Refuse to be used as political thugs or election riggers so that you will be able to fulfil your destiny as future leaders of our dear country, Nigeria.’

The monarch also encouraged the students to use their visit to explore some of Ibadan’s notable sites, including the University of Ibadan, Cocoa House and Bower’s Tower.

The message was contained in a statement by the Olubadan’s Chief Press Secretary, Chief Ayoade Olugbemiga.

Earlier, the delegation leader, Prof. Abdulhamid Suleiman, said the students visited the palace to receive royal blessings and discuss leadership and the importance of good governance.

He said the visit would also provide the students with an opportunity to learn more about Ibadan, which served as the capital of the former Western Region and was associated with some of the region’s early development initiatives.

The visit was attended by Senior Chief Adewuyi Odunade, Chief Olufemi Ogunwale Olibota, the Aare Ago Olubadan of Ibadanland, and other dignitaries
